Cloud-based retail or online inventory management software means your store’s data and POS is on the web and you can access it from anywhere. It is just like logging in and accessing your Gmail, Yahoo or any other web-based account. And this goes without saying that the internet is what makes the online store possible.
But what if you could make sales in your online store without internet? However, before discussing this possibility let’s find out why would you want to make sales without internet! There could be two reasons:
- Access to internet is temporarily unavailable. Temporary disruptions in internet provision can happen and, of course, you don’t want to let your sales suffer because of internet issues.
- You want to speed up your checkout experience for customers. Ringing up sales and printing sale receipts is a lot faster in offline mode.
So can you have the best of both the worlds? Fast checkout experience plus no fear of offline store, and the convenience of running an online store?

Who can ping sales in Offline Mode
For the personal version of Nimbus RMS, all users who have the right to make sales and for whom Enable Offline Services checkbox is on can work in the offline mode. For multi-store version, all shop users for whom Enable Offline Services checkbox is on can make sales in the offline mode.
How to work in Offline Mode
Sync Master Data
When you decide to work in offline mode, the first step is to Sync master data. Syncing of master data makes all changes in database or configuration available to shop database, and your cash register could continue to run from the copy saved in the cache.
Shift to Offline Mode
Once the data is synced, click the Online Mode button (green button) on the top right of the screen to shift to offline mode (the button will turn grey).
Now process sales like you do in online mode: add products, receive payment in cash or credit/debit cards, print sales receipt, etc.
As far as your credit customers are concerned, you can see their credit limit but their complete ledger will not be available in offline mode.
After making sales, the next step is to sync your sales to make it part of the master data. Go online by clicking into the Offline Mode button (the button will turn green), then go to Offline>Sync Sales and click into Sync Offline Sales button.
How does Offline Mode Work
When you process sales during offline mode, all your sales data is stored in your local browser’s cache. All sales punched during offline mode are logged and when you shift to online mode and sync sales, the data is transferred to the cloud.

Warning: Don’t Clear the Cache
After working in the offline mode, make sure you don’t clear the cache of your browser. Since all your offline sales data is in the cache, clearing the history will also wipe out the data. Moreover, when you sync master data before going offline, it remains in the cache and when you sync it again before next offline sales the application will require less time. Clearing the cache means the application will have to sync the entire master data again which takes time.
